The Mind Expander changed character in 2023 when it moved from Surf Rocker to Surf Camber. Longer camber underfoot clearly improved turning and high-speed stability, and with powder, carving, speed and jumps all rating 4/5 it has moved closer to being a daily driver. It doesn't float as well as before, though, it gets scratchy on rough snow and switch is weak. It's for advanced riders who understand tapered directional shapes and ride with a back-foot bias.
Base shape (camber)
Hybrid camber
A directional construction where camber runs from the tail well past the front inserts before giving way to rocker. Since the 2023 change from Surf Rocker to Surf Camber, it's far more stable underfoot and turns noticeably better. The spoon nose's lifted sides handle powder performance. A tapered directional with a centred stance, though it prefers back-foot weighting.
StiffnessHigher means stiffer
A medium flex at 6 out of 10. From the tail to the front inserts it's quite stiff and absorbs speed, while the nose bends more readily but resists buttering on groomers.
Where it shines
Who it suits
A tapered directional shape demanding back-foot weighting, it fits advanced to expert riders who understand alternative freeriding. Switch riding is weak (2/5) and it makes demands of your handling, so it's tough for beginners and intermediates.
Good
- ✓It turns far better than the previous Surf Rocker version since moving to Surf Camber
