Expert reviews 2
A later generation gave it a slightly softer flex and different carbon mapping. The three contact points of the triple camber often make it feel a little hooky, it does not track super well, and the camber points are harder to access. That said, once you get used to it, it is forgiving and easy to ride with excellent grip — a lot of people who just like a board to cruise with really enjoy it.
Base shape (camber)
Hybrid rocker
A tapered directional shape with a triple camber hybrid rocker. The three contact points often make it feel a little hooky, it does not track super well, and the camber points are harder to access.
StiffnessHigher means stiffer
Medium-stiff, and a little softer in later years; buttering is moderate.
Where it shines
Who it suits
Advanced and up — forgiving once you get used to it, but unfamiliar until then.
Good
- ✓Once you get used to it, it is forgiving
- ✓Easy to ride
- ✓Excellent grip
- ✓A lot of people who just want a board to cruise with really enjoy it
Not so good
- —The three contact points often make it feel a little hooky
- —It does not track super well
- —The camber points are harder to access
The Never Summer Proto T3 FR is an all-mountain freeride board leading with forgiveness and edge hold rather than aggression. Ice grip is particularly strong and it handles variable snow without fuss. In exchange, pop and carving spring feel are weak, so it suits riders who prioritise stability and control.
Base shape (camber)
Hybrid camber
Never Summer's Fusion Triple Camber — a multi-stage construction: small camber between the inserts, rocker at the binding points, camber again, then mellow rocker just before the nose and tail. It's a complex profile aimed at forgiveness and grip at once.
StiffnessHigher means stiffer
A medium-stiff flex at 7 out of 10. It's quite stiff between the feet, with most of the flex coming from the tip and tail.
Where it shines
Who it suits
Suited to advanced and expert riders, and intermediates can work up to it with practice. There's an initial hooky edge feel, so an adaptation period is needed.
Good
- ✓Outstanding grip on ice
- ✓The ride is forgiving despite the complex camber construction
- ✓Good durability with respectable base glide quality
- ✓It handles highly variable snow without fuss
Not so good
- —An initial hooky edge feel takes adaptation
- —Weaker pop than Never Summer's other camber profiles
- —Setback is small for a freeride board, closer to centred
- —Lacking spring feel in carves
