25/26 season review

#tricks#flex

The Rossignol Sawblade is a beginner freestyle board with rocker-based hybrid camber and a very soft flex, optimised for learning press tricks and playful riding on soft groomed snow. Insufficient high-speed stability and pop quickly reveal its limits to intermediate and above riders, but a reasonable price and high forgiveness make it a fine choice for beginners.

It's an entry-level deck where an upgrade should be considered once skills develop.

A closer look

These descriptions and scores are linked to this review. They may differ from manufacturer specifications.

Board profile

The profile describes the curve of the board when viewed from the side.

Hybrid rocker

A rocker-based hybrid profile (Amptech AutoTurn) with a small camber zone between the feet and rocker at the nose and tail. The rocker share is very high, so overall it feels close to a rocker board, while the centre camber provides minimal pop and torsional stiffness.

How stiff is it?Closer to 10 means stiffer. It does not mean better performance.

2/10

A very soft flex with almost no torsional stiffness, so ankle steering is easy. The tip and tail are very flexible with only the centre camber section comparatively stiffer. Rebound is low and the board bends noticeably on landings.

Rider levels suggested in the review

New

Clearly a beginner's board, suiting beginners or lower-level beginner-intermediates. A lack of high-speed stability, low pop and weak rebound mean limits for intermediate and above riders.

What the review liked

  • ✓A very supple, forgiving character optimised for beginner learning
  • ✓Long rocker sections make nose/tail presses easy and intuitive
  • ✓Fine edge serration gives it respectable carving grip for a soft board
  • ✓A reasonable price bracket lets you use it without worry
  • ✓Edge-to-edge transitions are supple and lively

What the review found lacking

  • —Insufficient high-speed stability makes the tips flutter and transmits impacts directly on rough snow
  • —Very weak pop and rebound place limits on jumps and park riding
  • —The board claps out badly on tricks needing precise landings, such as gap jibs
  • —As your skills improve, the board is highly likely to hold back your progress
