The Rossignol XV Slashimi is an all-mountain board for advanced riders who enjoy speed and technical terrain, with strong edge holding and pop as its main strengths. It shows its worth the more speed builds, but it isn't suited to low-speed riding or buttering and trick-focused riding.

It's a board that fits riders who want stiff, technical riding in the Xavier de le Rue style.

A closer look

These descriptions and scores are linked to this review. They may differ from manufacturer specifications.

Board profile

The profile describes the curve of the board when viewed from the side.

Hybrid camber

An Amptech Elite Rocker profile with camber between the feet, a long rocker section at the nose and a short one at the tail. It provides manoeuvrability in tight spots and stability between the feet at once.

How stiff is it?Closer to 10 means stiffer. It does not mean better performance.

8/10

A directional flex, designed stiff at the nose and slightly softer at the tail. Torsional flex is stronger than an average board's, making it stiff overall. Pop and energy return improve as speed builds.

Rider levels suggested in the review

Advanced

Loading the board takes considerable force and speed, torsional stiffness is high and its stiff character suits advanced riders riding fast on technical terrain. Buttering and low-speed carving are difficult, so it isn't suited to beginners and intermediates.

What the review liked

  • ✓Excellent edge holding in technical terrain and at speed
  • ✓Smooth, responsive turns in carves once speed builds
  • ✓Strong pop allows confident use off side hits
  • ✓A stiff nose provides stability crossing bumps and snow piles

What the review found lacking

  • —Not suited to buttering and unsuitable for trick-oriented riders
  • —Carve transitions and energy loading are difficult at low speed
  • —Drawing out the pop needs above-average strength and speed
  • —Low vibration absorption gives it a bouncy feel on rough snow
