25/26 season review

The Good RideRead source

The Never Summer Proto Type 3 is the archetype of the one-board quiver that does everything well. Recurve camber carries forgiveness and pop together, and hardpack grip is particularly excellent while it stays catch-free in soft snow.

It's the safest choice for intermediate and above riders who want to handle the whole mountain on one board.

Board profile

The profile describes the curve of the board when viewed from the side.

Hybrid camber

Never Summer's Recurve profile — camber-dominant, but with early rise and mellow bends that secure forgiveness. It keeps camber's pop and stability while reducing the sense of catching an edge.

How stiff is it?Closer to 10 means stiffer. It does not mean better performance.

6/10

A medium flex at 6 out of 10. It softens toward the tip and tail, the camber section is stiff and the area between the feet is strongest. That distribution delivers forgiveness and pop at once.

Rider levels suggested in the review

Intermediate · Advanced

A determined beginner can learn to ride it, but its real domain is intermediate and above. Predictable and accessible in character, it covers intermediates through experts broadly.

What the review liked

  • ✓Outstanding grip on hardpack while staying catch-free in soft snow
  • ✓It handles groomers, tracked-out snow, light powder and park broadly
  • ✓Recurve camber balances forgiveness and pop well
  • ✓Predictable and stable, so it needs less technical correction

What the review found lacking

  • —Using the setback inserts requires full-size binding discs
  • —Deep-powder capability falls short of a dedicated freeride board
  • —Its character is being evenly good across every area rather than overwhelming in any one

#carving#powder#flex

The Never Summer Prototype 3 is a versatile board covering all-mountain riding from park to powder to carving by combining a triple camber recurve profile with the latest carbon technology. Despite a medium flex, it delivers high-speed stability and strong edge grip, making it strongly recommended for intermediate to advanced riders who want to handle every terrain on a single board.

If you had to pick just one from the Never Summer lineup, the Prototype 3 is the safest choice.

Board profile

The profile describes the curve of the board when viewed from the side.

Hybrid camber

A triple camber recurve profile. It's camber-dominant with the middle of the board arched upward, and camber pockets sit in three places: ahead of the front foot, behind the back foot and between the feet. Flat sections just before the contact points lift the nose and tail slightly, adding catch-free character.

How stiff is it?Closer to 10 means stiffer. It does not mean better performance.

5/10

A medium flex soft enough for park use, but STS pre-tensioned fibreglass and carbon stringers give it far better stability and responsiveness at speed and on rough snow than boards of comparable flex.

Rider levels suggested in the review

Intermediate · Advanced

A medium flex makes it versatile from park to powder, but triple camber and carbon construction demand speed and firm-snow capability, suiting intermediate to advanced riders.

What the review liked

  • ✓The triple camber recurve profile secures extra contact points, providing strong edge grip even in icy conditions
  • ✓STS pre-tensioned fibreglass, full-length carbon stringers and a Precision Stitch carbon matrix deliver excellent pop, power and stability for the weight
  • ✓The RDS2 damping system absorbs vibration from rough snow and improves edge retention
  • ✓PEX sidewalls maintain consistent flex and high durability even in low temperatures
  • ✓The Blower stance option lets you shift the stance back for powder riding

What the review found lacking

  • —The triple camber's edge responsiveness can be somewhat demanding for beginners
  • —The twin-tip shape limits powder performance compared with a dedicated powder board
